Advisory For Prevention Of Chikungunya Continues Skinremediess.blogspot.com
The Ministry of NHS (NIH) has issued advisory for the prevention and control of chikungunya viral infection in the country.
It started by pointing towards the chikungunya outbreak in
Karachi and elsewhere, saying the disease invasive to many parts of the country
was identical as with dengue fever, which appears four to eight days after a
mosquito bite. Potentially delayed onset, duration 2–12 days (viremia may last
up to 7 days following symptom onset.
In the case of chikungunya, the transmission to man is made
possible by Aedes mosquitoes like Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus which are
found to be day vectors. However, though there is risk, most transmission
occurs during or after the rainy season in summer.
Few documented cases of miscarriage after maternal infection
with chikungunya virus, and no evidence that the virus is transmitted through
breast milk.
According to the advisory, there is no specific treatment
for the disease that relies mainly on symptoms and neither is a vaccine nor an
antiviral available for use in prevention and treatment.
It is recommended to patients to rest, drink lots of water
and other fluids so that they are prevented from dehydration and advised
patients not to take aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Do not take anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, naproxen etc.
What is Chikungunya?
- This disease is passed on to human beings by mosquitoes through biting.
- The symptoms of this disease include high fever, joint pains, muscular pain, headaches, nausea and weakness and itching.
- Joint pains are usually incapacitating and can be very severe at every stage.
- Some of the symptoms of the disease are similar to that of dengue virus and patients suffering from the disease might be mistakenly diagnosed with the disease especially in areas where the dengue virus is dominant.
- This disease is non-curable, but treatment of the symptoms decreases the diseases.
- The breeding of mosquitoes for chikungunya virus increases in residential areas, and this is why the disease is more.
- The disease is fatal very rarely.
- Chikungunya occurs in different parts of Africa, Asia, and subcontinent.
Treatment for Chikungunya
The treatment of chikungunya helps in improving the life to
some extent. Rest, liquids, and basic care can bring relief for chikungunya.
Treatment for preventing as well as diagnosing the disease are available for
antiviral medications that treat chikungunya.
- According to the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, no drug is available to prevent or treat chikungunya.
- However, these symptoms of this disease should be treated. For this, the following measures can be taken
- Take full rest.
- Drink more water
- Medicine of fever and pain can be taken after consulting a doctor
If you are taking medicine of some other disease, more medicines can be taken after asking the doctor
If you have chikungunya, protect yourself from mosquito bites for about the first week of illness
This is because, at this time of the illness, the virus
remains in your blood; it may then be transferred to another mosquito bite that
can transmit this virus to other people.
